Andy Williams postpones Singapore concert
SINGAPORE (AP) - American singer Andy Williams has postponed a tour of Hong Kong, Japan, Thailand and Singapore because of worries over the spread of bird flu in Asia, his Singaporean concert organiser said Thursday.
Williams, 76, decided to reschedule "because of his age and health issues,'' said Aris Liu. The Singapore concert, originally planned for March 6, will take place in July, Liu said. The dates for the other concerts were not immediately available. Most ticket sales have not yet begun in Singapore, though about 30 percent of the 8,000 available seats have been sold in a credit card promotion, Liu said. Two strains of bird flu have affected Thailand, Vietnam, Laos, Pakistan, Indonesia, China, Taiwan, Japan, South Korea and Cambodia - killing 10 people and ravaging poultry farms. At an emergency conference in Bangkok among regional health officials on Wednesday, Thai premier Thaksin Shinawatra acknowledged that the virus poses a serious threat to public health and the region's economies. However, officials declared it was still safe to travel in the region and said travel advisories were unnecessary. Williams' hits include "Moon River'' and "Raindrops Keep Falling On My Head.'' - APFor the latest news from The AP Wire click here
