Pak Lah to focus on issues affecting OIC members
PUTRAJAYA: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi will now focus his attention on issues affecting the Organisation of Islamic Conference members now that he has successfully steered the country through the general and party elections.
He said previously he was more concerned about Malaysia’s domestic agenda as he had to ensure that his government was re-elected and that the right leaders were chosen by his party members.
“I am aware that I have not been very active as OIC chairman. Now that I have fully discharged my responsibilities, I have ample time to devote attention and get support from OIC leaders on some of the plans I have drawn up to help our poorer members.
“I have asked the Islamic Development Bank to come up with a profile of the poorer Muslim nations in need of help,” he said in his speech during the breaking of fast with ambassadors from OIC countries at Wisma Putra here yesterday.
Abdullah said he had instructed Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Syed Hamid Albar to get in touch with OIC leaders for a meeting as soon as possible to discuss a scheme to help poorer members develop economically.
