Qantas plane makes emergency landing in Sydney
SYDNEY, Australia (AP) - A Qantas commuter airplane made an emergency landing at Sydney Airport on Thursday after smoke was seen coming from one of its two turboprop engines, the national carrier said.
Flight QF2042 had just taken off from Sydney for the central New South Wales city of Dubbo when air traffic controllers spotted the smoke, said Qantas spokesman Simon Rushdon.
He said the cause of the smoke was being investigated, but added that there was no fire in the engine.
The Dash-8 aircraft, which was carrying 11 passengers and three crew members, returned immediately to Sydney and landed safely.
An hour later, a replacement flight left Sydney for Dubbo, Rushdon said. - AP
