Karpal lodges police report over missing ballot papers
PENANG: DAP deputy chairman Karpal Singh has lodged a police report over the Election Commission’s (EC) claims that over 67,000 ballot papers issued for postal votes were not returned in last month’s general election.
Describing EC chairman Tan Sri Abdul Rashid Abdul Rahman’s allegations as serious, he called for a top-level police investigation into the matter.
“The police must trace the culprits, including the political parties concerned.
“Rigging an election is a serious matter as it subverts the democratic process,” he told newsmen after lodging the report at the state police contingent headquarters yesterday.
Karpal Singh lodged the report in his capacity as Bukit Gelugor MP.
Abdul Rashid said on Tuesday that 35,190 postal votes for parliamentary seats and 31,984 for state seats had not been returned to the EC.
