Clear skies seen over most of Malaysia
PETALING JAYA: Good weather is prevailing over our skies with most parts of the country recording good air quality.
While hotspots in Sumatra were barely detectable due to cloud cover over the region, 40 hotspots were spotted in the island of Borneo.
Department of Environment (DOE) air division director Che Asmah Ibrahim said current wind conditions had ensured clear blue skies for most parts of the country.
“We have to be vigilant as wind conditions may change next week,” she said.
On the reported fires in Sarawak, Asmah said DOE officers had gone to the site by boat and also from the air, but failed to detect any open burning activities.
“We suspect the fires may have been put out,” she added.
She said padi farmers were allowed to burn their padi stalks but in a controlled manner, when asked to comment on whether such burning activities were allowed. Farmers in Sekinchan have started burning their padi stalks after the harvesting season.
On feedback from the public, she said the DOE’s operations centre had been receiving calls and recorded information from the public on open burning.
The public can call the DOE’s hotline at 03-8889 1972.
