PM to reveal ‘big secrets’ in maiden Budget speech

PUTRAJAYA: Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi will reveal the “big secrets” of his maiden Budget when he tables his document in the Dewan Rakyat today.

CAUSE FOR JOY: Abdullah holding the Budget document in Putrajaya Thursday. With him are Nor Mohamed and Dr Ng.
The Prime Minister, who flew back home from a royal wedding in Brunei, appeared to be in a jovial mood when he made a half-hour visit to the Finance Ministry last night to see the last-minute preparations.

Accompanying him were Finance Minister II Tan Sri Nor Mohamed Yakcop and Deputy Finance Minister Datuk Dr Ng Yen Yen.

Abdullah, who is Finance Minister I, greeted his staff and watched them at work as he darted into the sorting, printing and Budget operations rooms.

In a lighter vein, he noted that most of the staff were women.

“We really see here the presence of women power,” he quipped.

Abdullah later told reporters the Budget was the culmination of consultations and discussions with both the private sector and various agencies since March.

Asked whether there were “goodies” in the Budget, he replied with a smile: “Wait for tomorrow.”
