Long queues as commercial vehicles hunt for diesel
MALACCA: Petrol stations in the state are running out of diesel rapidly as commercial vehicles engage in a diesel hunt, forming long queues at the stations.
Azhar Mihat, the supervisor of Kazumi Jaya Sdn Bhd, which operates a Petronas petrol kiosk in Alor Gajah, said: We received 10,920 litres of diesel at 3pm on Monday but this was quickly snapped up by lorry owners. We were out of diesel by 8am today (yesterday).
The station limited the sale of diesel at RM50 for vehicles under a tonne and RM100 for trailers.
Owners of plantation estates will get a maximum of RM200 of diesel provided that they have a letter from the Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry to buy more diesel, said Azhar, 45.
A fruit wholesaler at the Alor Gajah market, Makmur Issa, said it was very hard to run his business as he could only buy RM30 of diesel each time but had to travel as far as Kuala Lumpur and Johor to stock up on fruits.
I'll have to look for diesel around town and constantly contact my friends to see if there is diesel anywhere. It depends on luck.
This time, I got RM30 of diesel at the petrol station in Kampung Sungai Petai after a long queue, said the 45-year-old.
A chicken farmer, who declined to be named, said he would rather the Government increase the price of diesel than place a quota on supply.
A lorry driver, who was driving from Klang to transport 3,500 live birds, ended up spending a night at a petrol station near Ayer Keroh after running out of fuel.
Luckily, the birds are not in the lorry yet, otherwise, many of them would have died due to the heat, he said.
