A COMMITTEE under the Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry is discussing a proposal to standardise the price of diesel, Tamil Nesan and Malaysia Nanban reported.
Quoting Minister Datuk Shafie Apdal, the Tamil dailies said such standardisation would remove the difference in prices faced by industries without any subsidies and petrol kiosks that sell diesel at subsidised rates.
Shafie told the Dewan Negara, however, that before fixing an appropriate or standard price, due consideration would be given to the Governments expenditure, the grievances voiced by petrol station owners and the possible effects on consumers.
Senator Datuk M. Rethinam suggested that the Education Ministry monitor closely the teaching of Tamil and Chinese in national schools to ensure the language programme is carried out effectively.
It will benefit all if the implementation is done effectively, he said.
