Get hired first, job seekers told

“Our youths should capitalise on this. Put your foot in the door and do not be choosy about jobs. Experience the excitement. Fast-growing Malaysia with its infrastructure is encouraging foreign investors to come,” Marie Lam, country manager of Adecco Personnel Sdn Bhd said yesterday.
Lam said a major problem that hindered job seekers from being employed was their inability to express themselves during interviews, while fresh graduates take for granted that employers would hire them.
She said those who had found jobs should adopt a lifelong learning habit to continually improve themselves and try out new work.
Adecco Personnel and Jobs DB Malaysia Sdn Bhd will be among some of the exhibitors at a mini job fair at the Lifelong Learning Expo 2005 organised by the MCA Youth and National Integration and Youth Development Pillar.
The expo opens this Friday at the main concourse of Lot 10, Kuala Lumpur, and ends on Sunday. It is the first in a series of events planned for a nationwide roadshow.
Jobs DB Malaysia general manager Shahul Hameed Dawood said there were still jobseekers who did not know that they could look for jobs on the Internet apart from the newspapers.
“There are job vacancies available online.”
Shahul said there was a need for job seekers to think laterally and not confine themselves to a specific field when looking for a job.
Organising chairman Datuk Liow Tiong Lai said the expo was organised to help youths find suitable jobs in line with the MCA’s drive to inculcate the lifelong learning culture among the people.
