KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia’s superhero comedy movie CicakMan will be screened as part of the Malaysia-Indonesia Cultural Bridge programme in Jakarta.

This makes the movie the first to be screened outside the country after a week’s run in Malaysian cinemas.

The movie broke the record for first-day cinema collections for local films when it chalked up RM350,000 on Thursday.

Malaysian National Film Development Corporation Board director-general Mohamed Mahyidin Mustakim said the movie would be screened at the Jakarta Convention Centre during the Malaysia Film Week which was part of the Cultural Bridge programme.

CicakMan and other selected films will be shown for free to the public,” he added.

Directed by Yusry Abdul Halim, the RM1.7mil production stars Saiful Apek, Aznil Nawai, Fasha Sandha, Adlin Aman Ramlie and AC Mizal.

Mahyidin said six other movies to be screened were Pontianak Harum Sundal Malam 2, Gubra, Bilut, Castello, Buli and Puteri Gunung Ledang.

“This is our first attempt to penetrate the Indonesian film market on a major scale,” he said, referring to the free screenings and film agreements to be signed during the launch of the Cultural Bridge programme next Saturday. – Bernama
