Construction sector set to boom
THE construction industry, which has been contracting over the last five years, will have a chance to grow again with a new measure under the Government's privatisation programme.
The private financing initiative (PFI) will help to increase opportunities for the private sector to take part in infrastructure and utilities development, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi.
He said the PFI would make implementation of Government projects more efficient in a manner where risk and reward were equitably shared.
“The PFI can be utilised in situations where Government support enhances the viability of private sector projects in strategic or promoted areas,” he said when tabling the Ninth Malaysia Plan.
