Johor Fire Department seeks 10 projects
By FARIK ZOLKEPLI
JOHOR BARU: The state Fire and Rescue Department has submitted a proposal for 10 projects worth RM126mil to the Federal Government as part of the 9th Malaysia Plan.
Its director Mohd Yusof Muhammad said the proposal involved three projects brought over from the 8th Malaysian Plan and seven new ones.
‘It will focus mainly on building staff quarters at several district headquarters in the state, and other infrastructure,” said Mohd Yusof while speaking to reporters after the handing over of three Turn Table Ladder (TTL) vehicles to the Johor Baru, Johor Jaya and Batu Pahat fire stations at Larkin Fire Station here recently by State Health and Local Government Committee chairman Datuk Halimah Mohamad Sadique.
He said the city’s fire station received the TTL equipped with a 52m ladder while the other two fire stations received a 32m TTL each. All three TTL cost up to RM10mil and would be used in rescue operations in fires involving tall buildings.
Mohd Yusof said there would be a major restructuring in the Fire and Rescue Department nationwide to improve services to the public.
“We are happy with the move and we have requested an increase in personnel to improve efficiency in the department,” he said, adding that a special committee would be set up for the restructuring.
Mohd Yusof, however, refused to comment when asked when the restructuring would start and how long it would take.
He also declined to reveal how many additional personnel had been requested by Johor, explaining that it was up to the Federal Government to decide on the number.
The restructuring would involve changes in certain posts, he said.
