Three die in head-on collision

TAIPING: A woman and her daughter were among three people killed when a car and a van collided head-on at Km23 Jalan Ulu Sepetang - Redang Panjang, near here, on Saturday.
Police identified the deceased as Telekom Malaysia retiree Azizah Ahmad, 57, her daughter Khairun Nadiah Zanal Abidin, 20, a final year student of Kolej Komunity Kuala Kangsar, and trader Idris Baharu, 48, from Sungai Ara, Jelai, Batu Kurau.
Taiping OCPD Asst Comm Raja Musa Raja Razak said Azizah and Khairun Nadiah, who were returning to their home in Batu Kurau in a car, died on the spot in the 4.30pm incident while Idris, who was travelling alone in the van, died on the way to the hospital.
A relative of Azizah said the latter had earlier in the day gone to the Taiping Hospital to get some medicine for her mother, Jamnah Man, 70, who was discharged from the hospital on Friday.
Both Azizah and Khairun Nadiah were buried at the Kampung Changkat Semambu Muslim cemetery in Batu Kurau on Sunday.
